As you loyal readers know, I basically live in bathing suits, especially in the summer! There are so many swim brands out there + lots of cute suits to choose from. But did you know that you may own a suit or two that are bad for Mamma Earth?! That’s right. Lots of our clothes, bathing suits, shoes + accessories are a major contributor to pollution, waste and ultimately, climate change. Before you toss your bikini and go to the beach in your birthday suit, check out Breakfast Swim!
Breakfast Swim is a brand new company making CAY-UTEEEE and sustainable suits, made from recycled nylon. Let me explain how freaking COOL that is…
Discarded fishing nets are recovered from the ocean by diving teams…majorly important for saving the sea creatures that can get tangled in nets!
Then, the nets are taken to a facility and broken down and re-spun into Econyl fibers. This facility is closed loop, meaning there is ZERO waste created there! Even the energy used in production is re-generated.
Next, the fibers are made into suits at the Breakfast Swim production center in Bali, Indonesia. Here, they employ female workers (yay) at a fair wage up to three times the living wage in their area (double yay)! They’re also given annual bonuses and access to healthcare!
From here, the suits are packaged using Better Packaging Co., a compostable mailer bag partly made from plants. If you put this bag with your compost / garden waste, lil bugs will snack on it until it’s entirely gone, leaving behind NO micro plastics!
Why I Love It
Brands like Breakfast Swim are the reason I wanted to become a blogger. To highlight the good things that some rad people in the fashion industry are trying to do. The Breakfast Swim girls thought of everything…from sustainable materials, fair production and even green shipping. Bravo, gals.
And did I mention they make really adorable suits?! Their first collection features bright colors and fun patterns. I tried on a few different styles and loved the fit + fabric…very true to size and super durable for all of your ocean adventures! I cannot wait to see what they do next.
