After staying on the mainland of Belize for a few days, we boarded a tiny plane to the island of Ambergis Caye. The flight was only twenty minutes, but Ambergis Caye felt worlds away! Gone were the lush jungles and rolling hills. Instead, we were transported to a tropical paradise, teeming with beachside bars, sea taxis + snorkel boats and sandy shores! First stop on the island was Sapphire Beach Resort, a getaway nestled on the northern part of Ambergis Caye, ten miles away from the center of town.
THE PERFECT LOCATION
The first thing I noticed about Sapphire Beach Resort was its ideal location. Located far enough away from the tourist-y center of town, but close enough to all the excitement of San Pedro…only a twenty minute water taxi ride to shops, restaurants and bars. If you’re not feeling a water taxi, there are plenty of golf carts available for guests to explore the island!
After oooh-ing and ahhhh-ing about the gorgeous location of Sapphire Beach Resort, we were greeted on the dock with fresh fruit punch and taken to our bungalow. Painted with bright colored walls and adorned with conch shells, coral and even a personalized “Trendy Chickadee” palm leaf, the room was too cute! Not to mention it included a stocked fridge, a DVD player and a massive collection of DVDs to choose from [ AKA my 14 year old self’s dream come true ].
Once we settled in, we headed to lunch at Sapphire’s on site restaurant [ open all day! ]. In a word, the food was…UNREAL. We were traveling with a vegan, a gal with a gluten allergy and me, the pickiest eater of all time. And every single one of us found something we loved on the menu. Try the panko crusted chicken strips + the coconut curry…you’ll thank me later!
Once our bellies were full, we headed to the tiki bar [ only steps away from the restaurant ] for some fun! Complete with a mini disco ball and a killer cocktail menu, we had a chance to meet the other hotel guests + learn about local attractions from the hotel staff.
The grounds of Sapphire Beach were heavenly. The sand was so white + clean, and tropical flowers lined the walkways between villas and pools. I’m an early riser, so I’d wake up and walk on the beach as the hardworking staff was making sure everything was perfect for their guests! It was so cool to see all of the effort that goes into making Sapphire Beach Resort so beautiful.
Aside from looking great, the beach area was also so fun to play around on! We rode bikes down the loooong dock, hung out in hammocks for hours and searched for shells on the water’s edge. The resort even has three different pools, a spa and kayaks available for guests to enjoy.
If you’re looking to venture outside of Sapphire Beach Resort, they have an on-site snorkel + dive team to help schedule barrier reef tours, cave tubing, etc. We scheduled a snorkel trip, but ended up opting out because of a bad storm that rolled through! The staff couldn’t have been nicer about finding something fun for us to do instead of the snorkel trip, and even arranged to try the trip again the next day.
Thank you to Sapphire Beach Resort for an unforgettable visit. We felt so special and truly got to experience a few days in paradise! If you’re looking to visit Ambergis Caye, Sapphire Beach Resort is the place to stay! As usual, drop me a comment with any questions you have about the resort, trip details or anything else.
