I’m finally getting around to sharing a few more peeks at our trip to Mallorca, Spain! Mallorca is an island off the coast of Spain in the Mediterranean Sea. It’s the largest of the Balearic Islands, known for beautiful beaches, historic buildings and lots more! Keep scrollin’ for the best beaches in Mallorca [ in my humble opinion ].
Hanna and I went to Mallorca this past August after flying into Barcelona and spending a night there. Barcelona is beautiful in its own right, but we were itching to head somewhere a bit more beachy! Mallorca is a short flight from Barcelona, and we rented a car as soon as we landed. If you’re able to rent a car, do it! It made our trip so much easier and so much more fun. Our rental gave us the freedom to explore and drive from one end of the island to the other. Aaaand if you’re American, don’t worry! In Mallorca, they drive on the same side of the road as we do 🙂
Mallorca is amazing because one minute, you’re driving through the countryside filled with quaint local villages nestled in the hills, farm houses + vineyards, old churches and so much more prettiness. The next minute, you’ll find yourself in a tiny fishing town or driving down a beach road looking out at crystal blue waters. It is stunning and unlike anywhere I’ve ever been.
WHERE WE STAYED
We were lucky enough to stay in the small town of Selva at the beautiful Hotel Can Cota. Selva is a magical little town with local restaurants, cobblestone streets and a beautiful church. If you’ve ever seen the movie Chocolat, it looked just like that! If you haven’t, watch the trailer immediately and then go watch the whole movie. Thank me later!
Hotel Can Cota was an absolute dream to stay at. It’s an old property restored by a Spanish architect and run by his daughter and her family! There was even a dog that lived there, so you guys know I loved it. The grounds include a pool with a pretty incredible view of the valley below and the ocean just beyond that, an herb garden + a grove of lemon trees, fresh breakfast made every morning and so many other hidden spots to explore + enjoy!
THE 5 BEST BEACHES OF MALLORCA
Calla S’Almonia : South East Mallorca
This was our absolute favorite! It’s a bit of a hike [ literally ] to get down to the right spot, but once you’re there it’s heaven. Think rocky cliffs, hidden caves + lagoons and turquoise water. If you’re into water sports or adventure, this one’s for you! Be sure to wear tennis shoes or sandals that attach to your feet well. It’s super jagged rock and you’ll cut your feet if you aren’t careful!
Calla Llombards : South East Mallorca
This beach is close to Calla S’Almonia, so you get the same general look and feel, but Calla Llombards is easier to get to and easier to relax at! Theres a stretch of white, soft sand perfect for laying out + soaking up the sun!
Calla Formentor : North Mallorca
A more touristy spot for sure, but easy to get to! Think a looooooong stretch of sandy coastline, with boats bobbing around on the horizon and lots of people watching. This beach is less private than those mentioned above, but has beautiful views and a super fun vibe! Plus there’s a cafe there so you can leave your heavy cooler back at the hotel 🙂
Calla Banyalbufar : West Mallorca
Sad story…Hanna and I ran out of time to visit this one! But I’m including it on the list so that hopefully one of you can go there and send me ALL the pictures. From what I’ve heard, it’s surrounded by high, natural stone walls and vineyards can be seen overhead. And I’ve heard whisperings of a secret waterfall nearby?!
Calla Deia : West Mallorca
This hidden gem is a pebble-y beach with rock pools + old fishermen houses built right into the cliffside. There are two yummy nearby restaurants, too! Calla Deia is a lesser known spot, but is loved by locals, which means it must be good! When I’m traveling, I always try to chat with the locals and get their list of favorite spots. They almost never steer me wrong!
All in all, our trip to Mallorca was one of the best I’ve ever been on. The locals could not have been nicer, the weather was perfect and we got to see so much of the island in only a week! If you ever have the chance to visit this beautiful part of Spain, jump at it. You won’t regret it!
