School is back in session, which means homecomings, proms, formals, etc. are coming up on the horizon! I went to Catholic school from kindergarten to twelfth grade, so I was required to wear itchy plaid skirts, clunky Mary Jane shoes and button up blouses. School dances were one of the only times I could express my personal style and I loved dressing for them! Whether you’re going with a group of friends, someone you’re crushin’ on or flying solo, I’ve got allll the tips on what to wear to your formal or school dance!
First and foremost, keep things classic. I look back on some of the outfits I wore to homecoming and prom and say to myself “what was I thinking?!” because of the truly awful trends I took part in. I know what you’re probably thinking…isn’t this blog called TRENDY Chickadee? Yes! It is! But my advice is to keep things classic when you know you’re going to an event that you’ll look back on in the years to come [ think weddings, dances, family reunions, etc. ].
For this first look, I wore a baby blue long dress by Lulus. I love this dress not only for it’s classic silhouette and simplistic look, but also because I can wear it again and again! If you’re anything like I was in high school, your babysitting job probably doesn’t pay the big bucks! If you’re going to spend your hard earned money on a formal dress, make sure you can wear it again in the future.
If you’re looking for something a bit less fancy [ and easier to dance in ], opt for a mini or midi dress! A mini dress gives off more of a fun, party vibe while the midi dress is more sophisticated and elegant. For my second look, I wore this white backless minidress by Lulus. This piece also comes in black, baby pink, turquoise and burgundy 🙂

Thank you to Lulus for these two pretty dresses! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
