Okay, sorry sorry…bad overall pun. I couldn’t help it! It’s Friday and I’m wrapping up my first week as a full time blogger. I wanted to take some time to reflect on the path that lead me here and talk about what’s ahead for Trendy Chickadee [ spoiler alert, it’s some very exciting stuff ], plus share a casual outfit by Urban Outfitters that I’ll definitely be rocking now that I work from home or out of our local Santa Monica coffee shop! So, let’s start at the beginning…
I started Trendy Chickadee two summers ago after a really tough breakup…we’ve all been there, right?! My plans to move to Dallas for the summer were completely derailed at the last minute [ don’t ever move anywhere for a boy…I learned this lesson waaaay too late ], so I packed up my Jeep and drove back to my hometown, Chicago, to work in creative advertising and be close to my family and childhood friends. What started out as a hectic, last minute move became the beginning of the best time of my life.
My past relationship had left me feeling small, and my self-esteem was shattered. The first few days in my tiny [but amazing] studio apartment, I was a bit lonely. My best friend from high school decided to take me out to lunch to lift my spirits, and after copious amounts of fries and one of those best friend heart-to-hearts that make you feel so good, we took a stroll around the neighborhood. She started snapping a few pictures of me, and the blog was born! We started meeting up every weekend to take pictures against pretty walls and in cool alleyways, and I started posting them to Instagram. It was just something silly and spontaneous at first, but I started to get positive responses from people all over the country! Within a few weeks, I was gaining followers and taught myself how to code [ well, kind of code ] a blog…but more importantly, I felt like myself again. Confident, creative and ready to start something new.
As crazy as it may sound, it was starting Trendy Chickadee [ and the support of my amazing family and friends ] that brought me through a tough time. Looking back now, I want to pinch my 19 year old self for letting someone else determine how I felt and who I was. But hindsight is 20/20, right?! And, in the end, I wouldn’t change a thing. Today, I’m sitting at my desk as a full time blogger, able to make a living off collaborating with other creative people and sharing what we create with all of you. So thank you, to everyone who follows along. You guys mean the world to me and inspire me everyday.
Keep scrollin’ for my outfit details and hints on what’s ahead for Trendy Chickadee! Xx

SO, YOU QUIT YOUR DESK JOB?
No, not really. I was working in Los Angeles as a freelancer in creative advertising, meaning I sign on for contracts that are usually three to four months long. I love working in advertising, and have met so many mentors and friends, but I finished up my freelance contract over the holidays and decided to shoot for the stars and put everything I can into Trendy Chickadee.
WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO START FULL TIME BLOGGING?
There are many, many reasons, but I’ll name a few!
It was just too much to juggle a full time job and the blog.
Since I moved to LA and started working, I’ve been at my desk job full time during the week, and shooting as much as I can with my amazing photog Hanna on the weekends. Work, shoot, post, repeat. I couldn’t give 100% to the blog, and it became really frustrating. I don’t like to do anything halfway, so it was time to make a change!
My social following was growing quickly.
Okay, not that quickly, but still. Last month I reached a long term goal of mine to hit 20K followers on Instagram, and I didn’t want to lose that momentum by continuing give Trendy Chickadee less than half my attention. In other words, the people that were following me really inspired me to believe that I could grow my blog into something meaningful.
*Disclaimer : Social followings are so unimportant in the grand scheme of things, but as a blogger it’s an important metric for how many people you’re able to reach and how much companies should pay you for your services.
It makes me happy!
Someone once said “Life is far too short, and happiness is far too rare”. Trendy Chickadee is my passion, and it affords me the opportunity to travel, spend time with my loved ones, and be my own boss. In short, it makes me happy. I wake up every morning excited to start the day. There’s nothing more important than that 🙂
WHAT’S NEXT FOR TRENDY CHICKADEE?
So. Much! For starters, I’m putting a stronger focus on socially, environmentally and ethically conscious brands. I want to bring you guys clothes, accessories and cosmetics that do something to give back. From using recyclable materials to employing artisans in developing countries, my goal is to highlight companies that are aiming to make a difference!
I’m also working on adding video content in the mix. I just went live on Instagram and a few of you asked if I have a Youtube channel. I just made one! And I’ll be working on lots of video projects in the coming months.
I have a few more upcoming projects up my sleeve, but they’re currently top secret. Stay tuned for a BIG announcement next week!
